World War WikiLeaks

Totalitarian powers don’t want you to know,
And if you know,
Don’t want you to blow,

US War on Whistleblowers continues

US alarming behavior toward alleged whistleblowers like Jeremy Hammond, Bradley Manning and Julian Assange.

Michael Ratner Assange’s attorney was in the courtroom when alleged Stratfor hacker Jeremy Hammond was denied bail. He is facing 39.5 years in jail if he’s convicted. He’s 28 years old.

Michael Ratner: “My work today, as we speak—I just came back from a hearing in the federal court at the United States district court in New York City, where there was a bail hearing for Jeremy Hammond. I’ve talked about Jeremy Hammond a couple of times on Real News. Jeremy Hammond is the alleged hacktivist who was part of a group, anonymous, that was able to crack into the Stratfor emails, or the Stratfor website, or the Stratfor work. Stratfor is a private security company that had spied on everybody, from activists opposed to DOW Chemical, to anonymous itself, did work for the CIA, etc. They uploaded some 5 million documents to WikiLeaks, which is my client, Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, and Jeremy Hammond was arrested in March of this year. He’s been in jail for eight months. And he’s considered an electronic Robin Hood by many people who support his work…” quoted from source above, REAL NEWS.

Is this a war on WikiLeaks, or is this the beginning of a crackdown on free press?

Julian Assange’s speech via video link, before a side meeting of the UN general assembly on Wednesday, cited US issues that should not be ignored by its citizens and people of the world, as they are not characteristics of a democracy.
(See http://www.democracynow.org/2012/9/27/in_un_address_wikileaks_julian_assange. to access the entire speech.)

1. The implications of “indirect” aiding of the enemy, through leaking information to the internet or other media. (See http://www.opednews.com/populum/pagem.php?f=US-investigates-possible-W-by-Glenn-Greenwald-120927-110.html and http://www.democracynow.org/2012/9/27/exposed_us_may_have_designated_julian for a thorough accounting.)
2. The state of mind of Bradley Manning at the time he allegedly leaked the Wikicables and coined the phrase “mother of war” in regards to the atrocities and.corruption they revealed.
3. The cruel and tortuous treatment of Manning in an attempt to force him to say what they wanted to hear and to put fear in potential leakers. 4. Selective prosecution and the “whole of government” investigation of WikiLeaks which as a matter of public record includes: (from the speech)
” the Department of Defense; CENTCOM; SOUTHCOM; the Defence Intelligence Agency; the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division; the United States forces in Iraq; the First Armored Division; the U.S. Army Computer Crimes Investigative Unit, the CCIU; the Second Army Cyber Command; and within that three separate intelligence investigations, the Department of Justice, most significantly, and its U.S. grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia; the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which now has, according to court testimony early this year produced a file of 42,135 pages into WikiLeaks, of which less than 8,000 concern Bradley Manning; the Department of State; the Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Services. In addition, we have been investigated by the Office of the Director General of National Intelligence, the ODNI; the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive; the Central Intelligence Agency; the House Oversight Committee; the National Security Staff Interagency Committee; and the PIAB, the President’s Intelligence—the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board. The Department of Justice spokesperson, Dean Boyd, confirmed in July 2012 that the Department of Justice investigation into WikiLeaks is ongoing.”
5. The dramatic character change of President Obama and a Democratic administration of secrecy and despotic militaristic solutions to problems at home and abroad.
